At Vantage Toyota Solihull, Macmillan Cancer Support is a charity very close to everybodies hearts and they were all delighted when Macmillan invited the centre to become an official fundraising partner earlier in the year.
This fantastic partnership with Macmillan is all thanks to Niki Meller who is a very special employee here at Vantage Motor Group. Not only does she share the same passion to please as the rest of our employees, but she has also had an incredible journey which has proven her determination and strength. Niki is an extremely knowledgeable member of the team, joining the Vantage family in 2013 and working at Lexus Birmingham before her move to Toyota Solihull in 2014. However, on the 23rd December 2010, aged 30, Niki was delivered the devastating news that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Choosing not to give in, Niki underwent chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery before opting for reconstruction surgery in November 2013. If that wasn’t already enough, in 2014 her sister Rachel was also diagnosed with breast cancer, so in May 2015 Niki had preventative surgery on her non-cancer side.
Niki made the decision to give something back to Macmillan Cancer Support because she believed they had really helped her through her cancer. She has spent hours volunteering and helping others who find themselves in her situation. Niki said, “Cancer has changed my life massively over the past few years but I have a very happy ending. I get great satisfaction from the work I do with Macmillan hoping that I can help people who find themselves in the same situation my family have”.
Over the past few months, the team at Vantage Toyota Solihull have thrown themselves into organising fundraising activities for Macmillan, hoping to reach their fundraising target by the end of the year. Their most recent event was 'Cheese Toastie Thursday' and in August, the whole team will take on the Colour Run with the hopes to raise lots of money for Macmillan.
Frank, Centre Principal at Toyota Solihull, said:
"Myself and the whole team at Solihull are incredibly grateful to Macmillan for allowing us to be an official fundraising partner this year. We have had some great fun thinking of fundraiser ideas and it has really brought the whole team together as Macmillan is a charity very close to all of our hearts. We've already started planning our next quarter's fundraising events, so watch this space!"
Good Luck to the whole team for the Colour Run & the rest of your fundraising efforts!
